Ending front 600x600

“Imagine: You hear that you have cancer. And to deal with the idea that life comes to an end, you start photographing. Not just your decease, but also your thoughts about it. And then you get a second chance in life, as the great photographer you probably always were. Respect for this young, raw and strong photography of senior Leif Sandberg.”  Viory Schelleken

“I remember a text by Alec Soth called “At What Age Do Photographers Do Their Most Influential Work?” and his conclusion was: from 25 to 35. Leif Sandberg is peaking at 74 and makes this clear in his new book Ending. It is a privilege to see a work about getting old, without the typical voyeuristic documentary photography perspective.” Joao Linneu, Co-founder VOID

“Liberally using multiple exposures, blur and other manipulations, Sandberg has gone beyond the literal in his images and deliberately moved into the realm of the metaphorical, where his expressive compositions act like stand-ins for his various emotional states.” Loring Knoblauch, Collector Daily

“The images inside have an almost cinematic feel to them. Sandberg’s fondness for the arts is apparent. For me Bosch, Bacon, Bergman, Lynch, all come to mind. Nightmarish, surrealistic scenes.” Robin Titchener, Photobookstore Magazine

“The images are not grim, they are opposing. They oppose the inevitable. They express what it means to understand the value of life and its continuance. Leif has cheated the boney grip and is celebrating the severed tentacles wishing to charge him with a sentence of entropy’s gain.” ”This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED”. Brad Feuerhelm, American Suburb X

”This book is incredibly well designed. It has a pace and flow that is both intriguing and riveting. The sequencing is impeccable and there never seems to be a dull moment throughout the book. Most importantly the images don’t pretend to have any direct answers to the reader. In fact, after reading the book one may find that they have more questions than when they began the book.” Forrest Soper, Photo-Eye

”Ending is a physiological reflection of considering death and the finality of being human.” Aline Smithson, Lenscratch
